1973 Vine Village Opens
- January - Kathleen Orme, David Alosi, Inger Kessler, hired
as first staff, begin preparing the new property: painting, furniture
refinishing, etc.
- February 22 - Vine Village officially incorporated as a
non-profit organization
- March 3 - Michael & Nancy Kerson arrive "just for a month"
to help fight for use permit and set up Vine Village (we were such rubes - the
blast of neighborhood resistance caught us totally by surprise!)
- March - First Use Permit application denied; Standing room
only at Planning Commission meeting - nearly all in attendance protest against
us; Use permit denial appealed to Board of Supervisors
- April 8 - Sporting Goods Auction at Corte Madera Community
Center raises $5000.
- May 8 - Use permit was unanimously approved by Napa County
Board of Supervisors; Thanks to TV channels 2, 4, & 9 for showing up with
cameras running! VV made the news that evening
- May 15 - Sandra Riddell, first resident, moves in.
- Summer - Women’s House full (6 residents) Sandra Riddell,
Lenora Jacob, Debbie Kerson, Twila Cheyne, Joan Mathews, Cheryl Blay

Canning tomatoes: Lenora, Paul, Dan, Cheryl, Twila
- August - Men’s House opens with 4 residents: Dan Orme,
Arthur Van Damme, Bruce Greene, Paul Sommers

- Dante Bagnani starts Herb vinegar bottling project

Conditions of use permit met - Mike and David and Fergie built
a whole new septic system with engineered drainage system, water processing
plant, parking & roads
