MEET THIS YEAR'S ART BOTTLE ARTIST: TWILA VAN DAMME This year’s Art Bottle Series features a single Vine Village artist, Twila Van Damme. Twila is a dedicated artist and an extremely prolific one. She sews, knits, crochets, draws, makes crafts and woodwork, but mostly she paints. Twila’s paintings involve intricate designs and a sophisticated use of color. Twila was one of Vine Village’s first residents, back in the mid-1970’s. She came to Vine Village after graduating high school in her home town of MacDoel, California, where her family farmed potatoes and alfalfa. Twila met the love of her life, Arthur Van Damme, Jr., at Vine village, and the two married and moved out into their home a few years later. Twila and Art have remained part of the Vine Village community through the years, while living independently. Arthur works at Vine Village as part of our Building, Grounds and Maintenance crew, and Twila is an active artist in our daytime Vine Village Arts program. |

Phillip Glashoff’s whimsical sculptures have brought Phillip attention from around the world. Most of his work reflects his love for the Northern California farm country where he grew up and continues to live, and often includes “found objects” from old farm equipment.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON, TO KALON VINEYARD 1999, 2000, 2001
These limited production wines were crafted with fruit that was delicately harvested from two of our oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard blocks within Robert Mondavi Winery’s To Kalon Vineyard. This historic vineyard, nestled on the Oakville Bench, just at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains, has produced complex, long-lived Cabernet Sauvignon wines for 140 years. The highly extracted flavors, velvety tannins and exquisite balance are the signature of this vineyard’s old vines and unique terroir.
This auction lot is a unique opportunity to own part of our history. Each vintage was hand-picked in the early morning hours and hand-sorted before heading into fermentation. The 1999 To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon was the last to be fermented in stainless steel tanks which Robert Mondavi introduced to the winemaking community in 1966. In 2000, Robert Mondavi Winery began fermenting our finest wines in the To Kalon Cellar, a cellar that was completely dedicated to gentle gravity-flow handling of the grapes from start to finish. Grapes enter into the cellar and go directly into large French oak fermenters. After approximately 45 days the wine flows into barrels and the must is pressed in traditional basket presses. The wine is bottled following 18 months of aging in 100% new French oak barrels and released after 1 year in the bottle. This large format vertical is truly unique.
